Time’s Echo Live selected as Musical America’s top Boston event of 2023

In a year-end round-up for Musical America (“Boston’s Top 10 Musical Events,” December 27, 2023), Pulitzer Prize-winning critic Lloyd Schwarz chose the Time’s Echo Live festival at the Goethe Institute, produced by BroadBand Collaborative, as the top musical event of the year.

The Goethe-Institut offered a remarkable four-concert series hosted by Boston Globe classical music critic Jeremy Eichler and focused on his extraordinary book—Time’s Echo—about the Holocaust, music, and memory (we remember music; music also remembers us). On each program, Eichler considered one of the four composer-witnesses in his book—Schoenberg, Richard Strauss, Shostakovich, and Britten—followed by the Borromeo String Quartet (and friends) in unforgettable performances of masterworks by those composers: Schoenberg’s Verklärte Nacht, Strauss’s Metamorphosen, the “Chacony” from Britten’s Quartet No. 2, and Shostakovich’s stunning Second Piano Trio.”

These programs will be revised and reprised in 2024, with details to be posted soon on the events page.
